Budgeting Brits advised not to overlook pet insurance

14/08/2008

Budgeting Brits have been advised not to overlook pet insurance as a result of the credit crunch.

The Thrifty Scot website claims that as a nation of animal lovers, Britons should be aware that by not insuring their pets they may not be able to afford to have them treated should they fall ill.

It explains: "[Pet insurance] allows you to enjoy the peace of mind that you will be able to get treatment for your pet should the need arise."

The website notes that by taking out pet insurance Brits won't have to worry about saving up thousands of pounds to cover the costs of expensive treatments.

However, pet owners are also advised to check their insurance policies carefully to ensure they are fully aware of what the cover will and won't pay out for.

NewsNet5 reports that in the long run pet insurance can save animal owners money.

Dr Scott Zielinski, of West Park Animal Hospital, explained to the news provider why such cover is important even for someone who is looking after their animal in the best possible way.

He said: "Dogs get hit by cars. Dogs eat things that they shouldn't.".
