Brits spend more time planning holiday than mortgage

18/01/2008

Holidaymakers in the UK spend longer planning their annual break than they do planning their mortgage.

New research from Fool.co.uk has shown that only one in five people spend as long looking for their mortgage or credit card deals as they do booking their holiday.

Over a third of people spend at least ten hours planning their trip in the sun, but this isn't necessarily the most cost effective way, says the Fool website.

David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, said that spending more time on more boring issues like your mortgage could save people money, and so ultimately be able to afford more expensive holidays.

"Who can blame people for wanting to spend more time planning their holiday than pouring over financial products?" he said.

Fool.co.uk is a free to use financial advice website which has two million members, according to its website.
