Brits fear foreign foods
Britons are shunning foreign food when go abroad because they fear it will give them food poisoning, it has been revealed.
According to research from travel insurance provider Churchill Insurance, the fear of getting ill is one of main reasons for Brits deciding against sampling foreign food, with 21 per cent of respondents citing it as their primary concern.
Just as prevalent is the belief that the food will not be to their liking, with 21 per cent saying this had caused them to give local cuisine a wide berth.
More comically, ten per cent said that an inability to understand the menu had informed their decision, while perhaps more reasonably five per cent cited the desire to eat their favourite British foods while on holiday.
Abi Clark, spokesperson for Churchill Travel Insurance, said that far from being fearful Brits should take out travel insurance to cover them in case the local food makes them ill, and then attack the local food with impunity.
She said: "Our research shows that only an unlucky few are struck down by food poisoning while away. So, instead of steering clear of local delicacies, make sure you've got travel insurance in place to cover you should the worst happen and then get out there and eat whatever you like."

Number of Brits taking holidays abroad fell dramatically in 2009
