Backpackers offered cheaper beds in hostel sale

Backpackers are being given the chance to snap up rooms in hostels around the world at up to 60 per cent off their normal price.

Budget accommodation provider Hostelbookers has announced it is extending its sale, which has already been running for three weeks, until the end of February.

HostelBookers offers rooms in 369 properties in 91 towns and cities in 28 countries around the world.

The discounted rooms are available for stays up to March 31 this year.

So far, the most popular property in the sale is the Vintage Hostel in Paris, which is currently offering up to 40 per cent off its normal room rate. Backpackers can book the hostel's private en-suite rooms from £18 per person per night, including breakfast and Wi-Fi.

Of course the hostels are open to everyone, not just backpackers, and appeal to anyone travelling on a budget.

Particularly popular with couples is the romantic 19th century Casa Arcobaleno palace in Venice, which starts at £26.12 per person per night for a one-room apartment, which is 25 per cent lower than the normal price.

In Berlin, the Generator Hostel Berlin has twin rooms with en-suite facilities from £12.89 per person per night, including breakfast, which represents a discount of 20 per cent.

For backpackers who plan to stay three nights or more in one destination campsites are also a cheap option for travel from spring onwards. Keycamp and Eurocamp have sites close to many of Europe's major cities. Three nights in a pre-erected, fully-fitted tent in a Keycamp site close to Venice starts at £68.50 for three nights in May.
