Anti Valentine's Day Escapes

09/02/2010

If the thought of Valentine's Day fills you with nausea rather than love, you'll probably want to escape from the UK this weekend as every restaurant, hotel and nightclub will be crammed with heart-shaped helium balloons and loved-up couples paying over the odds for a table/bed/drink.

But where in the world can you go where you won't stumble across more of the same? Well, luxury hotel specialist TravelIntelligence.com claims to have a selection of the world's best party hotels for Anti-Valentine's Day mini-breaks.

In Barcelona, Europe's capital of cool, it recommends the Hotel Omm, which boasts a basement nightclub, a cocktail bar on the roof and a trendy Michelin-starred restaurant, Moo.

Want to get even further away from the UK? TravelIntelligence suggests a number of properties in the United States, including the Hotel Gansevoort in New York's oh-so-very trendy meatpacking district and The Shore Club in Miami, where hotel guests get to skip past the ever-expanding queues for the Skybar.

Also recommended for a decidedly unromantic but fun Valentine's weekend is the cool-but-colourful W Mexico City, where the lobby morphs seamlessly into a nightclub which attracts all the right people.

If you can't escape loved-up London this weekend, check in to the edgy and unconventional Andaz, where at least one of the five restaurants should be free of red roses. And if not, at least you're only a heartbeat from the bright lights of central London and the more creative, distinctly cooler East End.
