Animal centre given a helping hand

The owner of an animal centre in Hillingdon, Uxbridge has been given a boost after a group of graduates leant a helping hand.

Members of the British Airways leaders of business scheme helped cut overgrown plants, painted buildings and helped to clean up walkways at the Pets Corner site, the Hillingdon Times reports.

According to the newspaper, Stan Atkins, who runs the centre, has been finding it increasingly difficult to finance the upkeep of the site.

Julia Fitzgerald, from the Hillingdon Business Forum which organises team building days, said Pets Corner was a "great place" for the graduates to come and help out.

"Stan said he could always do with help and that's what we have been doing. It's something he can't do because he runs this by himself," she remarked.

Pet insurance customers may be interested to learn that an animal sanctuary in north Wales has raised concern that exotic pets may be the latest victims of the credit crunch.

Jane Dickensen, who runs the North Wales Reptile and Raptor Sanctuary, said that a large number of snakes had been taken in by the organisation in recent weeks, the Daily Post reports.
