Airport workers to join strike, does your travel insurance cover you?

Airplane taking off

The public sector union Public and Commercial Services (PCS) have announced that 250,000 members will be striking on 30th June over a battle against the government over pensions, retirement age and wages.

If your holiday is booked, and your travel insurance purchased before the strike dates or the intention to strike are announced you will be covered under the travel delay section of your policy.

The strike which is due to take place on 30th June will also now include airport immigration officials and some air traffic controllers, as they are also represented by the PCS. Approximately 61% of the unions members agreed to walk out after a national ballot was held.

A spokesperson for BAA seemed unsure about how the strike action by airport workers would affect the UK’s air travel on the 30th as it’s believed that very few of their employees were involved in the strike.
