Airport issues tips for Christmas travel

16/11/2007

A set of packing guidelines has been issued to help Christmas travellers enjoy a trouble-free flight this festive season.

The travel tips, which have been issued a spokesperson for Stansted Airport, highlight a number of pitfalls that travellers could fall into when setting off for a Christmas break.

Chief among the recommendations is that hand luggage should not be wrapped, since this will hamper the security efforts of airport staff, according to the airport representative.

He said: "Key points to note for passengers flying over Christmas include; if passengers decide to carry fragile Christmas presents in their hand luggage. They must be unwrapped for any security inspection that may be required."

Another potential pitfall is attempting to travel with Christmas crackers which "are not permitted in hand or checked in luggage".

Finally, the spokesperson reminded travellers that under current regulations only one item of hand baggage can be taken through security and this must be no larger than 55cm tall, 40 cm wide and 20 cm deep.
