A threatened strike by Monarch Airlines this summer should remind passengers of the need to buy travel insurance as soon as they book their flights.
A good travel insurance policy will compensate passengers for delays caused by strikes and refund the cost of their trip if they decide to cancel their holiday after a delay of 24 hours or more.
The cover is only provided to those who buy travel insurance before the possibility of a strike becomes public knowledge.
Monarch's cabin crew are threatening to strike at airports across the UK during the peak summer holidays over a pay dispute with the airline. Their trade union, Unite, will hold a ballot in July.
An airline spokesman said Monarch was unable to offer staff pay rises and additional benefits in 'the current economic situation'.
The airline operates charter flights on behalf of a number of tour operators from 8 UK airports and 3 in Ireland to a wide range of holiday hotspots including Spain, the Canary Islands, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, France and the Middle East.
It also operates scheduled flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
