Violence erupts in Jamaican capital where drug lord lurks
At midday on Monday, a wave of soldiers flocked to the Tivoli Gardens in west Kingston, the Jamaican capital. The move follows outbreaks of violence throughout the capital. Two police officers were killed on Sunday and six soldiers were injured. Police stations were also under attack on Friday.

BA strikes to go ahead after reports of record losses
Unite has won their appeal to go ahead with three rounds of five day BA strikes, with the first round starting on Monday. Each round of strikes will be broken up by a one day break. The first round of walkouts will run from Monday May 24 to Friday 28, the second round will be from Sunday May 30 to Thursday June 3, while the third round will be held from Saturday June 5 to Tuesday June 9.

Red Shirt camp in Bangkok under siege by Thai military
Using armoured vehicles, the Thai military broke through the barriers of the Red Shirt camp in central Bangkok this morning. At least four were killed in the onslaught and many were injured, including journalists, and even paramedics rushing to the aid of the injured. An Italian photo-journalist that got caught in the crossfire was shot dead.

Yesterday a High Court injunction put a stop to the planned BA strikes that were due to start today. British Airways is delighted to have won the ruling, but Unite is hoping to appeal against the injunction later today, with a view to arranging strikes to take place later in the month.
